Happy CNY!

10 02 2008

Chinese New Year this year has been what I thought it might be. Me getting irritated by relatives, me not getting much work done despite bringing the laptop home and me not doing as much as I wanted (due in part to falling sick on the first day of CNY, probably not the best start!)

But I still treasure the festival for what it means, and the traditions that we pay homage to. And this year I lao yu sheng 4 times consecutively! Monday through Thursday. I have another round next Wednesday and I am looking forward to it. Mostly because I love the salmon sashimi and the crackers. :)

At least I accomplished something I really wanted to do! Visit the flower show at Sentosa with CJ, who was wonderful for staying patient with me as I pranced along from one exhibit to the other. I missed last year’s and I wasn’t about to miss this year’s.

The sunflower girl is a really great performer as she is always smiling! I won’t be too pleased too if I were in the other costume with the huge red thing obscuring my view.

Anyway, in kind of a change of tradition this year, I didn’t celebrate CNY (as in strike of 12 midnight) at home as always. Usually at 12, we will all be at home with the lights all turned on and we will pull the crackers to celebrate. This year though we had reunion dinner at Jumbo at Clarke Quay and then I went off with CJ to X’s suite at Marina Mandarin. We couldn’t really see the fireworks from his balcony, but we caught a glimpse of it. And seriously, I’ve probably never seen fireworks from top down, always been looking up at it. So it’s quite a nice change. And it’s our first CNY countdown together!

And this is also the first CNY I did not buy lots of clothes in anticipation. In fact I only bought a pair of earrings and a dress from Holland Village near my office during lunchtime. Can you beat that!?

n669241482_430139_9123.jpg

And here I am wearing both. Sorry this is the only photo I have on this computer so…

Shoes are my Gisele ones which I’ve won forever, watch is the DKNY one Mum bought me. Gold bracelets are a Mum’s. Purse is from a Crabtree and Evelyn travel set I bought in Australia. I don’t know why but I’ve totally lost the urge to shop! I tried going round the shops to buy stuff but nothing excites me. Sigh. Maybe I should clear out my closet.

Anyway! I’ve been watching The Office (US version) season 1 and 2 on end and I really want to get Season 2! We saw the box set season 1 & 2 selling for 60AUD in Australia and I should have just bought that! What I have now is season 1 box set (50SGD — overpriced!!) and I rented season 2 for 12SGD. Methinks it is not worth it. Arghghg I am thinking if I should just try Amazon / eBay or just try Malaysia. I am having Jim and Dwight withdrawals.

I am trying to set up my other blog, one which will have all the details of my Australia trip — it’s so late, I know! So for now, a picture!

Happy(presents!)Xmas

26 12 2007

All in all, it was a good Xmas and I’m glad I recovered in time for Xmas.

Spent the eve at CJ’s place where we exchange presents, then went to his Auntie’s place where we had Xmas dinner ‘in the forest’. I think it was better this year because L. was there too so it’s kinda like 2 newcomers so I kinda stuck to her.

The uncle asked me again ‘Are you from Thailand?’ WHHHHHaaatt?? I bet if I went next year he would ask me the same thing.

We then went back to my place to spend a very uneventful ‘countdown’ where we watched DVDs.

These are what he got for me

(1) Practical present – A new charger, so I can have one at office and 1 at home. I’ve found myself without a charger at home over the weekend several times, and un-contactable, so this is a great gift :)

dsc01340.jpg

(2) Fun present – Tee hee! Sam and I saw the Transformers one at Toys R’ Us a few months back and I’ve been hankering for a Mr. Potato Head.

dsc01328.jpg

(3)  An ‘I want’ present! – I didn’t think he heard me when I was telling him about this book at Borders but he heard! And he got it. :) Coffee table book la, but I like it very much.

Anyway, being the practical (haha!) person I am, I got him a practical present. It is supposed to save him money from buying everyday stuff. Ya la, not very exciting or anything, but if he likes it I’m happy :)

dsc01326.jpg

And a handpainted photo frame!

My present for myself.

dsc01289.jpg

Not the Ipod Touch, it’s from my dad :) A cover for my ipod touch! It’s very nice and made of real leather, I don’t really like the silicone type covers.  And it’s (kind of) Hermes orange, so all the better!

I also succumbed and bought a pair of Gisele Bundchen flipflops. I know people have been saying how it’s overpriced and not very nice and stuff, but I like it!

dsc01337.jpg

And these are the ‘envelope’ clutch / sling bags he got for me at the Mango sale. It’s very versatile! And only 20bucks each. Actually I’m not sure, he sneaked to the counter while I’m in the changing room. But if it were 20 bucks, it’ll be really cheap! Even my dad says it’s cheap and he is notoriously picky when it comes to stuff like these.

Just like old days :)

3 09 2007

Zouk with Fanny and Ericia :D

Initially, we were a little hesitant to order too many drinks because we haven’t been clubbing for a while and we might not be able to take it.

The next day, I recounted to CJ the drinks we shared among us – 4 Lamboghinis, 2 jugs Vodka Ribena, 4 apple shooters, 1 peach martini, 2 whiskey dry, 1 Corona.

I think that was our normal amount when we used to go clubbing in the past! Haha.

It was fun… I can’t recall the last time I had such fun dancing! And of course it was great catching up with the gorgeous babes :)

Braces babes

Oh, the smoke free campaign… I love it! Can you believe I can actually still smell my perfume after we left? It’s great. No smokey hair. I love it! Now, what they can do now is an ‘Eliminate greasy guys’ campaign.

(?!?!?! Btw, I only realized today the advanced toolbar. I was thinking for the longest time… How did Hui write in all the different colours?!?Now I can do it too! ♣ )

Goodtimes

Come back to us, Ericia!

The thing is – I can’t remember why we said that for. Haha.
After work on Saturday I went to CJ’s place to sleep for a bit, then Fanny called and said they were gonna be at Hollywood Secrets and do I want to join them?

Aside – CJ was going to surprise me with something, but since I had the wrong shoes we couldn’t go. He didn’t want to tell me what it was, and I gave up guessing after a while. Later CJ’s dad was talking to him while he was in the washroom.
‘Do you have the clubs for the driving range tomorrow?’
CJ was like ‘Can we talk about this later, it’s a surprise for Chris’.
‘What are you talking about? She’s right here beside me!’
‘Well some surprise it will be right now’
‘So I will pick some clubs out for you to use tomorrow’
I wanted to laugh :)

Met the girls at Paragon later. We all got ourselves eyebrow trimming (to get ready for St. James?) and drove home. Then regrouped at about 930ish and had chicken rice at The Chicken Rice Shop, and then to St. James.

Random quotes from that night -

At TCRS, I had bean sprouts only.
‘You guys won’t think I’m weird for eating bean sprouts only right?’
Ericia ‘No la, it’s like eating salad’.

‘This is the circle of trust, this is Fanny and Anabelle’
‘This is Ericia… Come back from the periphery!’
‘How do you spell periphery?’

‘This card says he’s from Crystal Jade!’
‘But what post is he? Maybe he’s the cook or something’

‘How much is a jug of Cranberry Vodka?’
‘25dollars’
‘What?!?!?! That’s so cheap!’

‘I am the drinks police!’
‘I want a lamboghini’
‘No. I don’t allow’

‘The music is good here!’
About 2 minutes later
‘I think it is only lip-syncing!’
‘What a disappointment’

‘Let’s take photos!’
‘Why did you hold the camera so close to my face!!’
‘Why are you holding the camera to my eye!!!’
‘That photo is gross, delete it!!’

‘I never eat the 7-11 chips, they look lao hong
‘But this is good right?’
‘I can’t stop eating it!’

‘You are the queen of 25!’
‘Here’s your crown!’
‘Thank you, thank you’

A few months back, we also had a celebration for my birthday at Clarke Quay.

dsc00541e

They got me an egg beater from Tangs. :P Upon lugging the egg beater into MOS, the bouncer asked me. (Which I correctly predicted)

‘This is not a bomb right?’
‘I’m told it is an egg beater (but I can’t be sure)’

That night, some guys also bought us vodka shots and passed them around to us. I pretended to drink it, and then when I thought no one was looking I spat what I drank back into the shotglass and poured the remaining out onto the floor. Later, Ericia told me she saw me do that, and so she did the same. Fanny – ‘What! I drank it!!’

Barfly

23 02 2007

Cher and I went to Clarke Quay last night.

Wah! Since when did it become touristy?! As I was walking to The Clinic I saw so many Chinese and Japanese tourists complete with camera dangling from neckstraps and waist pouches. Also have you noticed that tourists always wear tee-shirts, berms and sport shoes?! Why???

We went to Clinic, which is nice. I wanted quite badly to try the drink that is served in IV drip format but in the end settled for 3 shots of something blue-y that tastes of butterscotch and strawberry. Yummy.

Then we went to Barfly, which I like much much much better!

DSC00367

(My phone is great. It was a very dark photo and I brightened it up a little using this editing function on my phone :) )

Very nice ambience and the staff was really polite and non-snob. As in they asked if it was our first time and if we wanted to be shown around. :) The only downside I can think of it the toilet is located in such a weird place.

It was really funny. Cher and I were standing in the middle of Barfly thinking ‘Should we stay here or go to Kandi Bar?’ And the staff who was showing us around said ‘We have a promotion tonight, 1 for 1 on all martinis’.

We were immediately sold. ‘OK! Table for 2 please!’ We said brightly.

I love love love the chocolate martini. I preferred it to the one I had at The Balcony.

Anyway, I missed just sitting down and talking with friends for hours. :)

8 milks a-maid-ing

19 12 2006

My line was ‘8 Maids a-milking’ and I kept singing ‘8 Milks a-maiding’. Haha. Then they wanted us to do actions so me and Caleb were semi horrified at the idea of the action.

But as you can see… everyone thought it was hilarious. :D

This year’s afterglow was so much better!

Dragonfly

6 11 2006

We were so skeptical but it was so fun!!!

Cher, Xiufen, CJ and I went to St. James Power Station on Saturday. Apparently according to Xf, Dragonfly is quite a nice place. Immediately Cheryl and I were like, ‘Are you kidding?!’. Of course, we only know it as the place where Slyvester sings chinese songs.

But we gave it a try… and we went in google eyed, and left very impressed!

Like Xf said, it is like a concert set up.

Photos!

They were singing ‘One night in Beijing’. I am so impressed by the girl I had to take a photo. She’s fabulous! Her voice… oh my god, is exactly like the real singer. (As in the female voice in the song, not the lead singer whom I know is a guy)

dsc00053.JPG

This guy is very very very entertaining. He’s about 40 years old (I think), and he comes out singing a song called ‘Tuo Diao’. Don’t know what the song is about but he kept taking his clothes off?! Haha! At first when he came out the lower half of his body was being blocked by someone in front of me. Then later I shifted and saw he was wearing underwear?! Haha. And his male backup dancers remind me of the Village People. Huh.

dsc00054.JPG

And the tank top is off! (Sorry for the blurriness… I didn’t switch the flash on). Looks like he is naked, but he actually has the underwear on still.

dsc00056.JPG

I didn’t take proper photos, but the female backup dancers are DAMN HOT! Seriously, they are even better than those crappy bar top dancers or what not that other clubs like to hire to entertain their clubgoers. They are all very pretty, and they REALLY CAN DANCE… all kinds of dances. And they are so hot and not in the least bit slutty (unlike many bar top dancers hired by other clubs. hur). You know, I’m really impressed.

Har! I wanna go again! I will not make fun of Dragonfly anymore! :D

With the girls!

1 11 2006

Hui said she planned the last last clubbing outing after reading my blog… I wasn’t able to go though. But we went last week!

278444332_7de2f2341d_o.jpg

Hehe Mel called me ‘Miss Deeply-in-love’ (:

278444749_20535b8a5c_o1.jpg

Here I am Miss-try-to gain attention.

It was fun girls! Let’s do this again this weekend!

Anyway, a kind of teaser … Tomorrow, say hello to my leeeetle friend. :D

Also to remind myself – Death Note, You Me and Dupree, Sinking of Japan, The OH in Ohio

Pictures

2 10 2006

Mel and Huihui are wonderful! I just found a whole stashload of photos on Mel’s flickr, and Hui’s Picasa thingy.254166966_05c39b37bb_o.jpg

I can’t actually remember when we went clubbing. I don’t really remember wearing this top and drinking this drink but what the hey. I appeared in like all the photos in that photoset. Man I must have been pestering Mel to take my photos. Haha.

254170806_768deb596d_o.jpg

Oh the top I wore when I first went to club! Haha. I remember shopping with a friend at Bodynits. Man I look extremely skinny. This was also back when my hair was still behaving itself.

254171248_217dbde985_o.jpg

Annoying CJ. =P And my hair begins to show signs of going crazy.

img0351.JPG

I was in long sleeves because I thought we were going to Eski*bar. Anyway, the girls look gorgeous! As they always are :)

*

Anyway!

What’s with girls who wear shorts with high heels?! It looks horrible! What were they thinking?!
