Words get lost and

29 02 2008

I think it is at this age when we start to get a bit anxious.

When you are in school, mid-20s seem like a long way to go. Suddenly, declarations you make when you’re 19 years old loom dangerously close to you. “I’m going to get married when I’m 27!”, or “I want to own a car the time I am 26!” or even “I am totally going to buy 500 dollars shoes when I’m older, like 25, and earn $XXXX a month!”

Then you approach your 24th birthday and you realise you are still a while a way from buying $500 shoes and you are definitely reconsidering marrying at 27 because gosh that’s only 3 years away.

Time seems to go by in a hurry.

Growing up

22 02 2008

My brother messaged me on MSN today to tell me the latest with his girlfriend. Apparently they broke up the night before and he was feeling quite low. He did, however, get composed enough to win some army challenge the next day with his detachment (whatever that is) so I didn’t feel so mad with the stupid girl.

How do you reach out to comfort your brother, whom you always thought was the stronger of the siblings, even though he is the younger one. I didn’t dare to say the wrong words. While we are close, I guess you’re never as close to your brother compared to a sister. So when he told me a part of me felt very angry at the idiot girl (i never liked her by the way, hated her from the get go), but I also felt happy he told me (even over MSN)

I remember when I first broke up, my parents were overseas. I had cried myself to sleep the night before, and I felt so glad they didn’t see me with red rimmed eyes in the morning. I stayed in bed way past my normal morning activities, and my brother came in to check on me. Somehow he managed to say all the right words.

I couldn’t be at his army camp to cheer him up and I felt sad he was alone (I don’t know… do army guys confide in each other?). I guess as he gets older, he would learn to deal with his problems and thoughts on his own, but the big sister in me always wants to make sure he is okay. If I could wish it, he’ll never ever meet a girl who will hurt him.

Anyway, I hope the idiot girl gets what she deserves (a flea that feeds on a piece of turd). She’s not even pretty. Grahhah I sound so childish but she really isn’t remotely attractive.

Herve Leger

18 02 2008

Baby doll floaty dress be on the way out, because sexy is in again!

I do love the floaty smock dress, shirt dress look but I think a woman’s got to flaunt what she has!

And with Herve Leger (designed by Max Azria) making a come back, I am just so excited! Of course, I probably can’t afford the original. So I’m just looking out for high street alternatives. The colour palette for the F/W08 show. I can’t wait to see what Max Azria comes up with for S/S09. The colours will be incredible.

Not a fan of the F/W08 hair and make up though so I will pass on that.

Celebs love their Herve Leger -

Can you see the Spring Summer colours already? I can’t wait to see the collection for S/S 09.

Glad that someone like Max Azria whom, imo, we can count on for beautiful designs is the designer for this line. Love it that he kept the bandage look, and stayed true to Herve Leger’s aesthetics.

Anyway, I’m thinking this look might only hit high street mid – end of this year. So crossing my fingers. Looks tend to take a long time to trickle down from the shows to mainstream … and this is so vastly different from the shapeless smocks girls are wearing now, so might be even longer.

*************

On a separate note, hurrah for the end of an era! If you currently wear small black rimmed glasses, throw them away!

Throw these away.

What’s trickling in now (quite slowly actually… cause I first saw them in the S/S06 Givenchy show and in fact, talked about them here and here) are big glasses. And I’ve seen a couple of people (non models, cause models don’t count) wear it and they look surprisingly good.

I just wanted to find a way to put Lawrence Stiers’ picture in this post. Haha!

So big glasses, coming soon!

Happy CNY!

10 02 2008

Chinese New Year this year has been what I thought it might be. Me getting irritated by relatives, me not getting much work done despite bringing the laptop home and me not doing as much as I wanted (due in part to falling sick on the first day of CNY, probably not the best start!)

But I still treasure the festival for what it means, and the traditions that we pay homage to. And this year I lao yu sheng 4 times consecutively! Monday through Thursday. I have another round next Wednesday and I am looking forward to it. Mostly because I love the salmon sashimi and the crackers. :)

At least I accomplished something I really wanted to do! Visit the flower show at Sentosa with CJ, who was wonderful for staying patient with me as I pranced along from one exhibit to the other. I missed last year’s and I wasn’t about to miss this year’s.

The sunflower girl is a really great performer as she is always smiling! I won’t be too pleased too if I were in the other costume with the huge red thing obscuring my view.

Anyway, in kind of a change of tradition this year, I didn’t celebrate CNY (as in strike of 12 midnight) at home as always. Usually at 12, we will all be at home with the lights all turned on and we will pull the crackers to celebrate. This year though we had reunion dinner at Jumbo at Clarke Quay and then I went off with CJ to X’s suite at Marina Mandarin. We couldn’t really see the fireworks from his balcony, but we caught a glimpse of it. And seriously, I’ve probably never seen fireworks from top down, always been looking up at it. So it’s quite a nice change. And it’s our first CNY countdown together!

And this is also the first CNY I did not buy lots of clothes in anticipation. In fact I only bought a pair of earrings and a dress from Holland Village near my office during lunchtime. Can you beat that!?

And here I am wearing both. Sorry this is the only photo I have on this computer so…

Shoes are my Gisele ones which I’ve won forever, watch is the DKNY one Mum bought me. Gold bracelets are a Mum’s. Purse is from a Crabtree and Evelyn travel set I bought in Australia. I don’t know why but I’ve totally lost the urge to shop! I tried going round the shops to buy stuff but nothing excites me. Sigh. Maybe I should clear out my closet.

Anyway! I’ve been watching The Office (US version) season 1 and 2 on end and I really want to get Season 2! We saw the box set season 1 & 2 selling for 60AUD in Australia and I should have just bought that! What I have now is season 1 box set (50SGD — overpriced!!) and I rented season 2 for 12SGD. Methinks it is not worth it. Arghghg I am thinking if I should just try Amazon / eBay or just try Malaysia. I am having Jim and Dwight withdrawals.

I am trying to set up my other blog, one which will have all the details of my Australia trip — it’s so late, I know! So for now, a picture!
