Postboxes
29 05 2007There is this competition going on for Singapore Post I think – Stamp.sg. I wonder why there wasn’t more hype for it. The designs are really interesting and very eye catching – I remember walking past one of them at Far East a month back and I was so excited about it! Pointing at it, I exclaimed to CJ – ‘Hey! How come people who stay in town get nicer postboxes?! And neighbourhood people get normal postboxes!! So unfair!’
Anyhoo, I’ve downloaded the entire set from the website and seriously it is so difficult to find a favourite design. All of them are so nice! This particular design I think Yanmei would like very very much.
Very fitting that it is set across Hermes.

Some of the designs look better on paper, but overall most of them look better if you look at it in its physical space.
Among all the designs, I would say this LV inspired design, the one with the animals coming out at night, Somerset pigeons and the old man performaning in Chinatown stuck to me the most.

Love
28 05 2007Lately I have been slacking off, not really updating as much as I used to. It’s like a cycle – I have ‘trigger happy’ periods where I post many many entries in a day and then comes the drough where I post maybe once a week.
One thing I’ve been meaning to talk about was of love.
…
I sat here, thinking about what to write, starting to write about 1-2 sentences. But it was difficult to write down in words what you feel in your heart. I wanted to write about what happened 1 year ago (basically dating some guys but feeling lonely still) and that one night. That night I was feeling really down, and actually prayed that I would one day find love. I didn’t need to keep it (love), I just wanted to feel it once in my life.
I suppose I can wax lyrical about my relationship. But I guess these are things only he should hear.
(With my rudimentary skills, and with the help of Picas*a — I didn’t have photosho*p)

Bored
28 05 20071. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says:
‘Heinz farm went on sale, Carl decided to buy it. He quit the bakery,’ (Fast Food Nation) They were talking about the start of speedy services, and Carl’s drive in BBQ was one of the first of such restaurants
2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?
Cambridge International Dictionary of English.
I had a copy beside the computer table, think it was because CJ and I were arguing how to spell a word, or what an acronym meant.
3. What is the last thing you watched on TV?
Xin fu shuang ren chuang. Singaporean drama serials are my guilty pleasure.
![]()
4. WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what time it is:
I guess 945pm.
5. Now look at the clock, what is the actual time?
It’s 943 according to my laptop time
![]()
6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
Justin Timberlake’s Summer Love, and Tay Ping Hui talking on TV
7. When did you last step outside? what were you doing?
To get some foot lotion and a pair of socks. I am wearing the little shoe socks NSL got for me from HK!
8. Before you came to this website, what did you look at?
Youtube, watching the mv for Another Sad Love Song. Toni Braxton! Heard it in Taka today and I can’t get it out of my head. It’s a classic!
9. What are you wearing?
Camisole and FBT shorts. Everytime I answer questions like this I feel like I’m participating in some sex chatline. *throathy whisper* why nothing, of course.
10. Did you dream last night?
Not last night, but several nights ago. It was disturbing. There were three, 2 were bad. One was this dating reality tv show, and no one picked me
![]()
11. When did you last laugh?
Can’t really recall, but I had a great time today. The last time I recall really laughing was when CJ talked about Pushpa
![]()
12. What is on the walls of the room you are in?
In my room I have a clock, an SPCA poster with a picture of a dog that says ‘To you he’s a dog, to him you’re everything’, A framed In the Mood For Love movie poster, Mum’s cross stitch handicraft and CJ’s painting for me
![]()
13. Seen anything weird lately?
For some reason this question made me shiver.
14. What do you think of this quiz?
Gets the job done.
15. What is the last film you saw?
Pirates of the Caribbean. It was good and the company was excellent
![]()
16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first?
A BMW Z5 or a Jeep Wrangler. Ya I know they are both very different but I can’t make up my mind. (Sorry Lovey, no Landrover
Although the Range Rover Sport is very nice)
17. Tell me something about you that I don’t know:
It would really depend on who ‘I’ is.
Perhaps something that a lot of people won’t know about me is that I am actually quite good at the electronic organ, and I have a grade 8 certificate from Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
18. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
At the risk of sounding like a beauty queen hopeful, I wish recycling and conserving natural resources are activities more people take part in. It does not take much effort, and is somethinge everyone can do.
And why can’t we all just get along?
19. Do you like to dance?
Yes
:D In secondary school, we had to dance for a performance, and the instructor said I had a good sense of rhythm. Hee
20. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her? a boy?
Sasha and Luke
21. Would you ever consider living abroad?
Yes. I would want to live overseas at least for 2-3 years. I mean, Singapore is tiny… there’s nothing much to do here.

Nighthood
24 05 2007I don’t think a lot of people know about this cartoon based on Arsene Lupin. I watched it when I was younger, and I loved it. People who know me knows that I love love love thrillers and crime novels, so this is no different. From wiki, this is the description of Arsene Lupin -
Arsène Lupin is a literary descendant of Pierre Alexis Ponson du Terrail’s Rocambole. Like him, he is clearly a force for good, while operating on the wrong side of the law. Those whom Lupin defeats, always with his characteristic gallic style and panache, are worse villains than he. Lupin is somewhat similar to A.J. Raffles and anticipates characters such as The Saint.
Okay, Arsene Lupin was a good looking gentleman thief – the passion! the danger! the intensity! He carries a cane but it looks so good!I was a geeky kid so a fictional character like that really made me very infatuated okay.

See.
Anyway, through the wonders of google and wiki, I found that there was a movie Arsene Lupin in 2004. Anyone know where I can get foreign / little known movies like this? Please?

Love
13 05 2007I’m so worried about you now you have no idea how scared I am.
When you love someone, you have a heightened sense of emotion about them. If he coughs a little, you’re worried it’s a sign of a bigger illness. He doesn’t return your call after 1 hour. You’re wonder if something’s happened to him.
I always want only good things to happen to you.

Miss Clarity Cafe
11 05 2007There was a lot of buzz about this cafe, and after N’s suggestion, we made our way down to check out the food.
Snap verdict – It’s surprisingly cheap for the quality and presentation of food.
There are so much to choose from! And all dishes here are under 10 bucks (except the seafood vol-au-vont which is about 11?)
I was torn between the lamb chops (mint sauce! lamb with mint sauce is my friend) and pork chops. In the end I got pork chops because of the ‘caramelized onions’. Yum.
It’s huge! There are three large slices of pork chop on a bed of roasted potatoes and brocolli. I couldn’t get enough of the caramalized onions. It was the best.
The dory was something I wanted to try as well. While it looks delicious, it does not seem to be as ‘value for money’ as mine. Behold -
Like written in David Sedaris’ book ‘Me Talk Pretty One Day’, it was like (I paraphrase) the chef has just rented a small plot of real estate for the food, and the rest of the plate was sublet for a possible parking lot.
We had escagots!
Instead of all prepared and laid out in little plates, the escargots are still in their shells. ML said ‘there is a bit of grass taste’. Haha.
It rests on a bed of sea salt. Now, I may be an amateur when it comes to fine dining and sea salt issues… but isn’t sea salt quite expensive? Once I went to Spain2Dream at Vivo and stopped by this place selling nice brightly coloured sand (I didn’t know what it was) in glass jars. The sales person was really friendly, so I went over to talk to her about the sand thingy. It turns out it was sea salt from the Mediterranean or something and it costs like 20 bucks! So I wonder it this is the same. Do they actually reuse the salt? It’s not like anyone is going to eat it.
The escargot not bad, but I still prefer the one at SAFRA that CJ brought me to.
Seafood vol-au-vont. Looks really nice in real life. Like the mussels are flowing out of the pastry. In this picture it looks a bit sticky though.
Can’t see clearly, but this is soft shell crab pasta. Huge piece of crab on cream based pasta. Not bad.
The dessert was good too! The chocolate cheese cake in particular. Marvellous! The juxtaposition (what a word to use) between the sweet and the sour/salty (cheese taste la, in short) is wonderful.
Can’t wait to go back!
