It all started when I told CJ ‘The right side of my face is fatter than the left!!’ because I thought my wisdom tooth is swelling.
So CJ brought me to see his dad for a consult. Last wednesday after the x-ray, he said it wasn’t about my wisdom tooth but because of a cavity. So alright… he said he might have to extract a tooth because… actually I can’t remember, but it’s to do with the cavity and too much teeth and because I HAVE A CLASS 3 JAW!!!
Sounds so low class right!!! Class 3 jaw!! Wah lau. I thought how nice it would be if I had a first class jaw… now I only have economy.
Anyway yesterday I saw Dr. H and she recommended I remove two ‘number 4s’.
Then they whipped me off to x-ray again.
Then back at CJ’s dad’s office he asked me ‘So when do you start school again?’
‘In a week’s time’
‘Hm… I don’t suppose you’ll want to start school with braces?’
‘Huh?’
I can’t really remember what happened next… I think I flinched when I got injected with the local anesthetic. Then filling the cavity.
Then the silver metallic thing which kinda reminded me of the metal instument CJ and I saw at Ikea which he jokingly remarked ‘This is what they are going to extract your teeth with!’. I think it was some wine bottle opener.
I gripped CJ’s hand so hard he later told me my nails were digging into his hands.
All I could remember thinking at the moment was ‘Oh my god my tooth is getting extracted and he is supposed to be supportive BUT HE IS STILL READING THE MAGAZINE!!!!’
To be fair, he was holding my hand while reading the magazine.
Anyway, I think it was really funny after the anesthetic, I had to rinse my mouth. Because one side of my mouth was already numb (‘like marshmellow!’ CJ said), when I expelled the water from my mouth, it came out drolling from the left hand side.
I was shocked for a while cause I thought ‘What, did they inject a hole through my mouth or what’. Then I realised I had not much feeling on the left side of my lips.
The rest of the day (okay half of the day) I walked around Plaza Singapura looking like this.
‘People are staring at me’ I whispered more than once to CJ.
‘You should remove the gauze, it’s not bleeding much anymore’ he replied more than once.
But I can’t, cause after a while it feels comforting. And without the gauze I feel quite vulnerable… and empty inside.
Anyway! I’m glad that when I messaged my friends about the braces, most of the reaction has been ‘But your teeth are straight!’
I guess the braces are more for dental health than cosmetic. I needed to align the bottom and the top teeth, or else I can’t bite properly. And when I can’t bite properly, I use the back molars to bite, and this causes lots of food to be stuck at the back. And cavities.
And maybe I’ll be thinner! Cause I think I will eat less with braces on. And also, maybe my jawline will look thinner. Yay!
Anyway, proof! That my teeth are actually quite straight.
